What to Expect When Expecting a Lucy Darling Show
A Lucy Darling show is… well, it's an experience, isn't it? Even we don't fully know what will happen each night! But there are some elements you can depend on, and in that respect we present this helpful guide.
The Shows
We tour several different shows, which are most readily identified by the musical companion. Each show features different material, but some favorites are always present, such as Ask Lucy. But even with the same show, the standard elements or more of a framework for improv rather than a strictly scripted narrative. Our tour page lets you know which show will be presented in each city.
All of the shows typically run for two hours, which includes an intermission. Sometimes we do a 90-minute version without intermission (this most often happens when we do two shows in an evening).
The Lobby Experience
Your time with us begins in the lobby, with enrichment activities curated by our photographer, James. Pose for photos with life-size Lucy cutouts, larger than life-size inflatable objects, or put yourself into the role of Lucy herself, not to mention a certain unnamed (or multi-named) butler.
Step up to the photo booth to take photos with your own crew to share far and wide and show everyone what a fun time you're having!
Merch Table
Also be sure to visit the merch table to pick up fabulous items which depending on current availability might include: t-shirts, posters, stickers, pins, yearbooks, and more!
There will be a line, so be sure to make new friends while you wait. When it's your turn, our friendly staff (which can consist of Luke, Chelsea, Bree, Brandon, John, or others) will be happy to answer your questions about any of our fine products. Acceptable payment methods include cash, credit, and tap to pay.
Pre-show Talkback
If you’ve purchased tickets for the preshow talkback, that’s going to begin two hours prior to the show and last about 45 minutes, so be sure to budget your time accordingly.
When you arrive you’ll go to the check-in station to collect your pre-show badge and be allowed to access the merch booth early. The talkback is general admission so regardless of what your show ticket says, you can and should sit close to the stage.
The preshow is your chance to ask the behind the scenes questions you’ve been dying to know but can’t ask Lucy. Lucy doesn’t know what the Lucy Darling character is based on, because she’s not a character as far as she knows. But Carisa knows what’s up.
Afterwards you’ll be cleared back out into the lobby and be allowed to reenter later for the main show.
Before the Show
Once you are seated, you'll have an opportunity to participate in Ask Lucy by asking a question and voting on your favorite questions asked by fellow audience members. There will be a QR code and secret password you'll use to access the Ask Lucy website
Though the questions are submitted early, Lucy has no prior knowledge of their contents when she reads them during the show. She likes to be surprised. And do remember that these are questions for Lucy, not for Carisa.
And by the way, if you like to take pre-show selfies to share online, we ask that you do not post any that include that night’s QR code and password until after the show. We want to keep the fun in the house.
Post-show Meet & Greet
If you purchased the meet & greet add-on, you should pick up your post-show badge at the check-in station in the lobby when you first arrive. When the show ends, you should remain seated until guided by a venue usher. While you wait, you can follow the instructions to get your photos delivered to you.
Once you are led to the meet and greet space, you'll stand in line with your fellow Darlings. Be sure to make even more friends while you wait!
When you get to the front of the line, James will take solo photos of you and members of your party. Then Lucy will walk over to join in the fun! She'll engage you in a short chat and bring you to the Butler's table where she'll sign autographs and give you a special treat. When she needs to say goodbye and greet more guests, the Butler will make sure you are sent safely on your way home.
How long does it last? We limit the amount of tickets sold to be respectful of everyone’s time. Some of you will be in and out within minutes but even if you are very last in line we try to not make you wait much more than an hour.
